Lagos — For the third year running, NIPCO Gas Ltd has emerged as a standout force in Nigeria’s energy transition, earning the prestigious Gas Infrastructure Leadership Award from Energy Times.
The recognition underscores the company’s sustained push to expand access to affordable, cleaner energy across the country.
Widely regarded as a leading industry publication with a broad national readership, Energy Times conferred the honour in acknowledgement of NIPCO Gas’s long-standing investments in critical gas infrastructure—efforts that have steadily reshaped Nigeria’s energy landscape.
Since entering the market in 2009 as an early mover in natural gas distribution for automobiles and industrial use, NIPCO Gas has built an extensive footprint.
Central to this achievement are its gas distribution licences from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, covering major economic corridors such as Ibadan, Abeokuta, and Lekki.
These licences have significantly widened access to gas for households and industries alike, lowering costs while supporting cleaner energy adoption.
Presenting the award, Energy Times Editorial Board Chairman, Yakubu Lawal, highlighted the company’s expansive infrastructure network.
He pointed to a growing grid of operational Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations, alongside more than 20 additional stations under development through a joint venture with NGML.
The company’s pipeline systems, he noted, have become vital for businesses seeking both cost efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.
Receiving the award on behalf of Managing Director/CEO Nagendra Verma, Group Assistant General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Lawal Taofeek, described the recognition as a strong endorsement of the company’s strategic direction.
“This is the third consecutive honour from Energy Times. It reinforces our leadership position and strengthens our resolve to deepen gas penetration across Nigeria,” he said.
As Nigeria accelerates its transition toward cleaner fuels, natural gas remains central to national policy on energy security and emissions reduction.
NIPCO Gas’s continued infrastructure expansion is playing a critical role in enabling that shift—supporting industrial competitiveness while broadening access to low-cost energy.
In line with this momentum, the company recently commissioned two new CNG stations in Benin and Warri, a move widely welcomed by motorists and businesses seeking reliable and affordable fuel alternatives.
With its consistent recognition and expanding footprint, NIPCO Gas is not only shaping the present of Nigeria’s gas sector—but helping define its cleaner, more resilient future.
