LASCOPA resolves 528 complaints, secures N26.2m refunds, adjustments from IKEDC
Lagos, Oct. 2026 (TBL Africa) The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) says it has resolved 528 complaints against Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC), securing refunds and credit adjustments totalling N26.24 million for affected consumers between January and September.
The agency’s General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Afolabi Solebo, disclosed this in a statement signed by its Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Mr Adesile Rufai on Thursday in Lagos.
Solebo reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting electricity consumers rights and promoting accountability in the power distribution sector.
According to the him, LASCOPA received 556 complaints against IKEDC during the nine-month period, out of which 528 were resolved, while 28 remained outstanding.
He noted that the resolutions represented approximately 95 per cent of the complaints received.
He added that the agency’s interventions facilitated refunds and credit adjustments, amounting to N26,243,758.75 for affected consumers.
The general manager further reiterated the agency’s commitment to promoting fairness, transparency, accountability and improved service delivery in the electricity distribution sector.
“The resolutions demonstrated the importance of regulatory intervention, consumer advocacy and mediation in resolving disputes between electricity consumers and service providers,” he said.
According to him, LASCOPA received and analysed complaints submitted through online and offline channels.
He explained that the agency’s stakeholders’ parley with IKEDC provided a platform for the electricity distribution company’s officials and affected consumers to discuss grievances, reach mutually acceptable agreements and resolve disputes amicably.
He expressed satisfaction with the agreements reached through the engagement and urged aggrieved consumers to follow established procedures for seeking redress rather than resorting to self-help.
Solebo advised consumers to provide relevant supporting documents, including electricity bills, payment receipts and other evidence, when submitting complaints to facilitate timely investigations and resolution.
According to him, LASCOPA holds its stakeholders’ parley with IKEDC on the last Thursday of every month to provide a regular platform for consumers to present unresolved complaints and engage directly with the electricity distribution company.
He encouraged consumers to promptly report billing disputes, estimated billing, overbilling, electricity supply challenges and other unfair practices to the agency for appropriate intervention.
He reiterated the agency’s commitment to protecting consumers and promoting accountability among service providers in line with its mandate and the Lagos State Consumer Protection Law 2025 (as amended).
He also advised residents seeking assistance to contact its toll-free helpline on 080 0005 2726 on weekdays or send an email to lasgcopa@gmail.com to report complaints and seek redress.
