Moniepoint introduces savings products to address financial challenges

Lagos, Aug. 2026 (TBL Africa) Moniepoint Microfinance Bank has introduced new savings products and unveiled the “One Step Ahead” campaign in partnership with Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, to encourage Nigerians to develop stronger savings habits.

The bank said this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos, adding that the initiative was designed to give individuals and businesses more flexible ways to save and build financial resilience.

It said the initiative was informed by a recent customer survey which showed that unexpected expenses disrupted savings for 72.8 per cent of respondents, while irregular income affected 51 per cent.

According to Moniepoint, the findings highlighted the need for savings solutions that combine financial planning with flexibility and easier access to funds.

The Managing Director of Moniepoint Microfinance Bank, Mr Babatunde Olofin, said the new products were developed to address customers’ everyday financial challenges.

“These innovative savings solutions were developed specifically to ease customer pain points.

“Our ecosystem gives everyone the flexibility to grow their money and access it whenever they need it, combined with some of the best rates in the market,” he said.

Olofin said the campaign was not only about earning interest but also about helping customers work towards their financial goals while preparing for unexpected expenses.

He said the bank’s digital payments infrastructure also allowed customers to transact, save and access liquidity conveniently.

According to him, the new product range comprises four savings options designed to meet different lifestyles and cash-flow needs.

He said customers, except those on premium tiers, could start saving with N1,000.

Olofin said Target Savings allowed customers to withdraw up to 50 per cent of their savings once without losing accrued interest, while earning up to 11.5 per cent per annum.

He said Flexible Savings allowed up to four withdrawals monthly without forfeiting interest, with returns of 9.5 per cent per annum.

The managing director said Fixed Deposit paid interest upfront, with rates of up to 17.5 per cent per annum, while Save As You Transact allowed customers to save as they spent and withdraw funds without restrictions.

He said the products were designed to give customers greater control over their finances while earning returns on their savings.

Moniepoint said non-customers could open accounts by downloading its business or personal banking application, completing the online registration and fulfilling the required Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures.

The bank said Akindele’s participation in the campaign was aimed at presenting the savings message in a relatable way, drawing from her popular “Jenifa’s Diary” television series.

It said the salon setting associated with the series provided a familiar backdrop for communicating the importance of saving in everyday life.

Akindele, an actress, filmmaker and producer, is one of Nigeria’s prominent entertainment personalities.

Moniepoint said she had won 10 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs), making her the most decorated individual in the history of the awards.

Olofin also cited the commercial success of Akindele’s 2025 film, “Behind the Scenes”, which he said became the first Nollywood film to surpass N2 billion at the West African box office.

He said the campaign was part of Moniepoint’s broader commitment to financial inclusion by providing individuals and businesses with tools to save, earn and better prepare for financial needs.
