TCN inaugurates 300MVA transformer at Katampe substation to boost electricity in FCT

Abuja, May 2026(TBL Africa) The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has inagurated a 300 Mega Volt Ampree (MVA) 330/132 Kilo Volt (kV) power transformer at its Katampe 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja.
The company said that with the inauguration of the transformer, the substation’s capacity had increased from 450MVA to 750MVA.
TCN said that the upgrade meant it now had more power available at Katampe Substation for Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to offtake for onward distribution to consumers in Abuja and environs.
According to TCN, the project was executed under the TCN-World Bank collaborative initiative, which is part of strategic efforts to rehabilitate and expand the nation’s transmission network.

Shuaibu said that the transformer would support increased power delivery, enhance overall grid stability, and facilitate better electricity supply to distribution load centres nationwide.
