Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Adelabu acknowledged the hardships caused by the blackouts, particularly during the peak of the dry-season heat.
“I want to apologise to Nigerians, officially now, coming from me as the Minister of Power, for this temporary issue that is leading to hardship being experienced,” he said.
The minister attributed the outages to supply constraints beyond the ministry’s immediate control, including limited gas deliveries, pipeline maintenance challenges, and financial pressures on power operators.
Adelabu, however, reassured citizens that improvements were imminent.
“With the committee we have established, commitments from gas suppliers, and the ongoing pipeline repairs, we should begin to see improvements in supply within two weeks,” he said.Maps
He further detailed efforts to stabilise the power grid, including a dedicated committee monitoring compliance of gas producers with domestic supply obligations and new payment structures to incentivise increased gas delivery to power plants.
The minister also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s target to boost electricity output to 6,000 megawatts before the end of 2026, describing the current crisis as a temporary setback in a broader reform agenda.
“Power generation will improve, transmission will improve, distribution will improve, and Nigerians will benefit greatly by year-end,” Adelabu stated.
He concluded with a pledge to surpass previous performance levels: “If we delivered strong service in 2025, this year we are committed to doing even better.”
