Rainstorm triggers gridlock on Nyanya–Keffi expressway in Abuja
Abuja, April 2026 (TBL Africa ) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Tuesday confirmed heavy gridlock along the Kugbo–Nyanya axis in Abuja after an incident triggered by intense rainfall.
In a statement in Abuja, Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, said the downpour caused widespread disruption.
Ohaeri said, “The rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, damaged sections of the newly constructed Kugbo Bus Terminal.”
He added that the damage led to obstruction and disrupted normal traffic flow along the Nyanya–Keffi Expressway.
“The situation has resulted in slow vehicular movement and prolonged delays, especially for inbound traffic into the FCT,” he said.
He noted that affected lanes and increased roadside activities further compounded congestion along the corridor.
Ohaeri advised motorists to exercise patience and caution when approaching the affected area.
He urged road users to obey traffic officials and cooperate with personnel deployed to manage the situation.
The spokesman warned against dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking and route violations, noting such actions could worsen the gridlock.
He added, “Motorists should maintain safe speed and adequate distance between vehicles due to wet road conditions.”
Ohaeri said FRSC personnel had been fully deployed and were working to restore free traffic flow and ensure safety.
He appealed to motorists to remain calm, law-abiding and prioritise safety as efforts continued to normalise movement.
