NDPHC begins power project to improve electricity supply in Kaduna community
The Niger Delta Power Holding Company Ltd. (NDPHC) has commenced a project to improve electricity supply to Rigasa community in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following nearly 15 years of inadequate power supply.
The project comprises a two-kilometre 11kV line, a 1.5-kilometre 33kV line and a 7.5MVA, 33/11kV injection substation to strengthen electricity distribution and improve access for residents and businesses.
The project, facilitated by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG), reached a milestone on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, with a groundbreaking ceremony performed by the Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who represented Gov. Uba Sani.
Balarabe commended NDPHC for the intervention, describing it as a significant step towards addressing the community’s longstanding electricity challenges.
Speaking through the Executive Director, Networks, Engr. Bello Babayo Bello, NDPHC Managing Director, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s vision of improving electricity supply nationwide.
She explained that although NDPHC primarily focused on power generation, its interventions also covered transmission and distribution to address infrastructure gaps and expand electricity access.
Adighije described the Rigasa project as a worthwhile investment that would ease residents’ hardship and demonstrate the impact of targeted infrastructure development.
The intervention followed sustained advocacy by BAT-IG Convener, Comrade Bamidele Atoyebi, who repeatedly drew NDPHC’s attention to the community’s electricity challenges, leading to the company’s commitment to the project.
In his vote of thanks, the Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, appreciated the Kaduna State Government and the community for their cooperation and support.
The District Head of Rigasa, Hakimi Arc. Mohammed Aminu Idris, also commended NDPHC’s management for its commitment to expanding electricity access.
Other dignitaries at the ceremony included former Senator Shehu Sani and the Managing Director of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, Dr Umar Abubakar Hashidu, alongside government officials, industry stakeholders and community representatives.
NDPHC General Manager, Distribution, Engr. Dahiru Muritala Mohammed, whose department oversees the project, was also present.
The project is expected to strengthen electricity distribution, support business activities and improve living conditions in Rigasa, underscoring NDPHC’s efforts to bridge power infrastructure gaps and promote socioeconomic development in underserved communities.
