Ikeja Electric Names Onyelucheya Acting CEO to Drive Next Growth Phase

Ikeja Electric has appointed Mrs. Ogochukwu Onyelucheya as its Acting Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen leadership and accelerate operational performance, innovation, and customer service delivery.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by Kingsley Okotie, Head, Corporate Communications, Ikeja Electric.

According to the statement, the appointment follows the transition of Mrs. Folake Soetan, who has served as Chief Executive Officer since 2020 and will now take on broader strategic responsibilities within the energy sector.

Chairman of Ikeja Electric, Kola Adesina, commended Soetan’s leadership, describing her tenure as transformative.

“Folake has been instrumental in transforming Ikeja Electric into a more resilient, customer-focused, and performance-driven organisation. Her leadership reflects innovation, resilience and impact,” Adesina said.

He added that under her leadership, the company recorded improvements in operational efficiency, stakeholder confidence, and long-term sustainability within Nigeria’s power sector.

Soetan, while reflecting on her tenure, said it had been a privilege to lead the organisation.

“It has been an honour to lead Ikeja Electric and work with a team committed to delivering value to customers and communities. I look forward to supporting broader energy sector goals in my new role,” she said.

The Board of Ikeja Electric expressed confidence in the new Acting CEO, noting that Onyelucheya brings strong leadership experience and deep institutional knowledge to the role.

Adesina said her appointment would help consolidate gains already achieved and drive the company’s next phase of growth.

“Ogochukwu brings a strong blend of leadership experience, strategic clarity and execution discipline. We are confident in her ability to build on the foundation already laid while driving innovation, efficiency and customer-focused growth,” he said.

Onyelucheya is a senior corporate executive with over 20 years of experience spanning banking and the energy sector. She has led business strategy, financial control, and operational transformation initiatives focused on process digitisation, automation, and revenue assurance.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Nnamdi Azikiwe University and a Master’s degree in Finance and Financial Law from the University of London, and is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School.

In her remarks on the appointment, Onyelucheya expressed appreciation for the opportunity and pledged commitment to service improvement.

“Taking on the responsibility of building on the strong foundation at Ikeja Electric is a privilege. We will remain focused on improving service delivery, strengthening customer trust, and driving sustainable performance,” she said.

The company said the leadership transition reflects its commitment to continuity, operational excellence, and improved customer experience across its franchise area.

With the new appointment, Ikeja Electric said it is well-positioned to deepen stakeholder confidence and continue delivering reliable electricity supply and value to customers, regulators, investors, and host communities.
