Court discharges man accused of poisoning

Ibadan, April  2026 (TBL Africa) An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, on Friday discharged a 66-year-old man, Tirimisiyu Lamidi, charged with poisoning a cow.

Lamidi was arraigned in 2025 for conduct likely to cause breach of peace and cruelty to animals.

He pleaded not guilty.

The case was called on Friday for hearing but the complainant, Malam Muhammed Isiaka, withdrew the case.

The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwaferanmi Raji therefore discharged the defendant without acquittance.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov.30, 2025, at about 5:30 p.m., at Ido, Ibadan.

Tellang said the defendant killed one cow belonging to Isiaka, by injecting poisonous substance in a corn shaft and placing it on the cow’s route.

He said the poisonous substance killed the cow worth N2 million.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

“The complainant said the defendant begged him for forgiveness and he decided to pardon him considering the fact that they live in the same area,” he said.
