Traditional ruler lauds return of sanitation exercise in Lagos

Lagos, April 2026 (TBL Africa) The Olu of Agege, Oba Kamila Isiba, on Saturday commended the return of monthly environmental sanitation in Lagos, calling it a fair process that will restore discipline and community pride.
Speaking on the development in Lagos palace, the traditional ruler said the exercise reflects government’s commitment to public health and urged residents to embrace it.
“The exercise will help us build a healthier Lagos and strengthen unity among our people.
“I believe everything will work fine; It is a good initiative and we are happy about it.,” he said,
Meanwhile, it was observed wide compliance in Agege, with residents cleaning homes, shops, and streets. Police also mounted roadblocks to enforce the exercise.
Some residents who spoke on the sanitation, welcome the move.
A trader, Mrs Olubunmi Karounwi called it “long overdue” for healthier living.
“We have been waiting for this; The streets need to be clean and this will help us live healthier lives,” she said
A civil servant, Mrs Helen Idowu described it as a reminder to “take responsibility for our environment.”
On his part, a youth leader, Mr Toheeb Adekoya, stressed community participation to strengthen the process.
“If everyone joined hands, Agege will be cleaner and safer; I am happy it has started again,” he said
In the same vein, a resident, Mr Sola Bankole, noted that “clean surroundings mean fewer diseases.”
The monthly sanitation exercise is expected to raise hygiene standards across Lagos and reinforce public health efforts.
