Revellers celebrate Easter at National Theatre, Shoprite Surulere

Lagos, April  2026 (TBL Africa)  Easter revellers on Friday visited the National Theatre and Shoprite Surulere in Lagos, enjoying shopping, sightseeing, and recreational activities.

Families, youths, and children were seen moving around both locations, taking pictures and enjoying the festive atmosphere.

At the National Theatre, some visitors sat under the trees to chat, while others bought snacks and drinks from nearby vendors.

Mrs Kemi Oladipo, a civil servant, who came with her children, said that she chose the venue because of the open space.

“I brought my children here so they can play and enjoy Easter.

“It is calm, and we can relax without spending too much,” she said.

A photographer, Mr Michael Okeke, said he visited to meet friends and enjoy the fresh air.

“Public holidays like Easter give people time to relax.

“This place is good for that,” he said.

Another visitor, Miss Funmilayo Ajayi, a businessman, said that she was looking forward to watching “Dis-Loyal Judas,” a powerful opera of faith, betrayal, and inspiration.

“I heard there will be a stage performance later. It sounds interesting, and I may stay back to watch,” she said.

A National Theatre official who pleaded anonymity said that music star D’banj is scheduled to headline: The C.R.E.A.M Experience 3.0 at the Theatre.

He said the event, headlined by D’banj, popularly known as “The Koko Master,” would also feature other artistes, including 2Baba and Wande Coal.

According to him, tickets for the event range from General Access at N30,000 to Kings Row at N200,000.

The official noted that the concert follows the recent rehabilitation of the National Arts Theatre and is expected to attract a large audience.

Meanwhile, at Shoprite Surulere, shoppers filled the supermarket and surrounding stores, pushing carts and buying food items and drinks.

Mrs Bose Adeyemi, a teacher, said she came early to avoid the crowd but still met many people.

“I came to buy things for Easter celebration at home.

“Even though prices are high, we still want to celebrate,” she said.

A businessman, Mr Chinedu Okafor, said he visited the mall to purchase groceries and hang out with friends.

“The place is very lively today. People are buying drinks, snacks and other items.

“After shopping, we plan to go somewhere else to relax,” he said.

Another reveller, Mr Ibrahim Lawal, said he combined shopping with family outings.

“I brought my family here to buy a few things and also allow the children to have fun.

“Places like this make holidays enjoyable,” he said.

The food vendors and small businesses around the mall recorded increased patronage as visitors bought ice cream, snacks, and soft drinks.

Some children were also seen playing around the open spaces at the National Theatre, while others rode bicycles.

Security personnel were stationed at both locations to ensure orderliness.

The Easter celebration is expected to continue as more residents in Lagos visit recreation centres during the holiday.
