NNPC secures $20bn deals in gas sale, purchase in 2025

Yenogoa, Aug.2026 – The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) secured over $20 billion deals in gas sale and purchase in 2025.

This was disclosed by the Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL), the pipeline infrastructure company responsible for the Eastern corridor of the TNP, at its August 2026 Stakeholders Engagement Forum in Yenogoa.

The forum followed the signing by ECOWAS Heads of State of the Intergovernmental Agreement for the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline, a proposed 6,900-kilometre line linking Nigeria to Morocco through 13 West African coastal countries.

Dr Akpos Mezeh, the General Manager (Community and Stakeholders Relations) at PINL, said the $20 billion deals represented a major opportunity for Nigeria to expand its gas economy.

He said the deals would stimulate industrial growth, create jobs and strengthen energy security, but warned that pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft and sabotage could threaten the gains.

Mezeh said the gas agreements covered 1.29 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day for long-term LNG feed gas and an additional 750 million standard cubic feet per day for domestic industrial gas supply.

He said the agreements were secured through strategic partnerships involving major investors, including the Dangote Refinery.

Mezeh said the deals also demonstrated renewed confidence in Nigeria’s gas sector, adding that it were needful for stronger protection of Nigeria’s energy infrastructure.

He said that the development could also provide a major boost to industrialisation, employment generation and economic growth if the infrastructure required to deliver the gas remained secure.
