Abuja, Aug. 2026 – Nigeria’s external reserves have risen to $53.1 billion as of August 24, 2026, exceeding the Central Bank of Nigeria’s projection.

The CBN disclosed this in a post on its website as the highest level of reserves in 18 years.

The reserves position is also higher than the $51.04 billion projected by the CBN for this year and will cover over 12 months of imports.

Nigeria’s external reserves have been rising steadily since the assumption of office of Tinubu’s administration, rising from $35 billion on May 29, 2023 to the current level.
