NEMA, LASTMA hail NUJ-NAN Lagos Health Walk
Lagos, Sept. 2026 (TBL Africa) Mrs Oluwadamilola Ajiginni, Chief Search and Rescue Officer, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has called on organisations to prioritise the health of workers through regular exercise.
Ajiginni made the call in an interview on the sidelines of the 2026 NAN-NUJ Press Week Health Walk on Monday in Lagos.
She said prioritising health was critical to workers’ productivity.
She expressed satisfaction with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) chapel for organising the health walk.
According to her the NEMA’s participation in the exercise is to ensure the safety of participants along the designated routes.
Speaking further, she described the initiative as successful and encouraged other Federal Government agencies, public institutions and private organisations, to organise similar activities for their workers.
Ajiginni also commended the organisers for conducting medical checks to ascertain the health status of participants, before the exercise.
“We are here to ensure the safety of lives and ensure motorists are properly guided as participants walk through the designated routes,” she said.
She said NEMA had collaborated with NAN on the initiative for about five years and expressed the agency’s willingness to strengthen the partnership.
According to her, the exercise also creates awareness among motorists on the need to maintain speed limits and comply with road safety regulations.
“It also creates awareness for road users to adhere strictly to rules and regulations, especially as participants navigate the designated routes,” Ajiginni said.
Similarly, some officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were deployed to guide participants and ensure their safety along the road.
Adedayo Oduwole, a Traffic Superintendent with LASTMA, described the health walk as successful and deserving of commendation.
Oduwole said activities of this nature helped in sensitising members of the public on the importance of safe driving and compliance with traffic regulations.
He said the exercise also provided an opportunity for him and other LASTMA officers to undergo medical checks.
He urged the organisers to sustain the initiative and encourage more reputable organisations to participate in future NUJ-NAN Press Week health activities.
No fewer that 500 people comprising of NAN staff and students of the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) participated in the exercise.
The road walk began front YABATECH to the NAN premises in Iganmu.
The health walk is part of the activities lined up for the three-day NAN-NUJ Lagos Press Week programme.
