LASTMA rescues trapped accident victims on LASU-Isheri Road
Lagos, July 2026 (TBL Africa) The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued three victims of a multiple-vehicle collision on LASU–Isheri Road.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.
According to Bakare-Oki, preliminary findings indicated that the accident involved a Mack flatbed truck, a Toyota Sienna and two commercial tricycles.
Bakare-Oki said that the accident occurred at Iyana School inward Igando.
“The Mack flatbed truck reportedly suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control before violently colliding with a Toyota Sienna and two commercial tricycles, thereby triggering a serious multi-vehicle crash.
“LASTMA personnel, who were on routine traffic surveillance and operational patrol within the corridor, responded with remarkable promptitude by immediately activating the agency’s emergency response protocol.
“Their swift intervention was instrumental in rescuing trapped victims, preventing secondary collisions and restoring orderly flow of vehicular traffic on the affected route,” he said.
He said that LASTMA worked in close synergy with policemen attached to the Iba Police Division, coordinating evacuation of damaged vehicles.
He said that the LASTMA officers and the police ensured clearance of the accident scene.
“Regrettably, the accident left three occupants, one male and two females, with varying degrees of severe fractures.
“Through the prompt and coordinated intervention of LASTMA officers and other emergency responders, the victims were successfully extricated from the wreckage and immediately conveyed to El-Shaddai Hospital, where they are receiving specialised medical treatment.”
He admonished motorists particularly operators of articulated vehicles to subject their vehicles to comprehensive mechanical inspections before embarking on any journey.
He said that the operators must lay emphasis on the integrity and efficiency of the vehicles’ braking systems.
According to him, routine preventive maintenance of critical vehicle components remains indispensable in reducing road accidents and enhancing overall road safety.
He urged motorists to exercise caution, comply strictly with extant traffic laws, and promptly report road traffic emergencies through LASTMA’s toll-free emergency code 3367 to facilitate intervention by its emergency response teams.
