Ikeja Electric Marks World Malaria Day with Community Health Outreach

Ikeja Electric has reaffirmed its commitment to community health and wellbeing through targeted Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the Abule-Egba and Odogunyan communities, in commemoration of the 2026 World Malaria Day themed, “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.”

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday in Lagos by the Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Kingsley Okotie.

The outreach focused on raising awareness and improving access to basic healthcare services through community sensitization and on-the-spot medical support.

Residents were educated on the causes, symptoms, prevention, and early treatment of malaria.

Practical guidance was also provided on the use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, proper environmental sanitation, and the importance of seeking prompt medical attention.

As part of the initiative, participants underwent malaria testing and received appropriate antimalarial medication, treated mosquito nets, and informational materials to support sustained prevention efforts within their communities.

Speaking on the initiative, the company’s spokesperson, Kingsley Okotie, said:
“At Ikeja Electric, we recognize that our responsibility goes beyond providing electricity.

We are committed to supporting the wellbeing of our customers through initiatives that promote healthier communities.

This World Malaria Day outreach reflects our effort to equip residents with the knowledge and resources needed to prevent and manage malaria effectively.”

He added:
“We believe that sustained awareness and access to preventive tools can significantly reduce the impact of malaria in our communities, and we will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to drive positive health outcomes.”

The company also urged customers to remain safety-conscious during the rainy season, noting that this period increases the risk of hazards such as exposed electrical wires, flooded installations, and electric shock incidents.

Customers were advised to avoid contact with electrical infrastructure during rainfall, refrain from handling or approaching damaged or fallen wires, and ensure that electrical installations within their premises are properly secured and protected from water exposure.

Customers are further encouraged to report safety concerns through Ikeja Electric’s emergency lines: 0909-222-7299 and 0909-222-7799.

Reiterating the company’s commitment to community engagement, safety advocacy, and sustainable impact, Okotie emphasized that these priorities remain central to Ikeja Electric’s broader goal of building safer, healthier, and more resilient communities.

“Ikeja Electric remains dedicated to delivering value to its customers through reliable power supply, continuous stakeholder engagement, and meaningful CSR interventions that improve quality of life,” he said.
