Heavy security as FG opens mass terror trial In Abuja
The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday started the mass trial of 20 suspected terrorists accused of terrorism-related crimes.
The trial, which normally happens at Kainji in Niger State, was moved to Abuja because the court is currently on Easter vacation.
The court vacation began on Tuesday, April 7, and will end on April 13. Regular court sessions will resume across all divisions on Tuesday, April 14.
According to NAN, all 13 courts at the Abuja Federal High Court are currently handling terrorism cases. Some of the trial judges include Justice Binta Nyako, Justice Emeka Nwite, Justice Musa Liman, and Akpan Ekerete.
Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, led the team of government lawyers before Justice Nyako. On the other side, Aliyu Abubakar, the Director General of the Legal Aid Council, led the team representing the 20 suspects.
Some of the accused in Justice Nyako’s list include Hamat Modu, Isah Ali, Awal Bello, Shehu Bukar, Alhaji Kulle, Mohammed Abacha Hassan, Aminami Mallum, Tasiu Yakubu, and Abdullahi Ali.
