Electricity consumers want improve power supply to cut business cost

Abuja, Oct. 2026 (TBL Africa) Electricity consumers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have appealed to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to take urgent steps to improve power supply to cut cost of doing business.
The consumers said this in an interview in Abuja on Sunday.

The ‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌consumers, who reside at Kubwa and environs decried the poor power supply to their homes and business premises.

According to them, they are only supplied electricity for three to five hours in a day.

Mr James Odibo, a welder, resident in Kubwa, said that the situation was terrible as he had to rely on generator to operate his business.

“We don’t get electricity up to five hours a day. I have to depend on generator to do my business and to get fuel to power it is difficult as the cost has gone up and I cannot afford it.

“I want to appeal to the AEDC to do something about the poor power situation urgently,’’ he said.

Mrs Augusta Obi, a fashion designer also resident in Kubwa said that in her area, they do not get power supply for up to three hours a day.

Obi said that some days there would not be electricity at all and this was affecting her business.

She appealed to AEDC to take steps to improve on the situation as it was getting worse by the day.

Mrs Ejiro Umokoro, a civil servant and resident of Kubwa said that the area had been without electricity for days.

According to her, sometimes it will be restored in the night for just two hours and this cannot power my refrigerator as my foodstuff in the freezer are going bad.

”My appeal to AEDC is that they should try and fix electricity in this area, ”she said.

Mrs Patricia Osagie, a caterer residing at Dutse said that electricity was not too regular in her area.

According to her, they only have light for three to five hours a day and sometimes they don’t get for a whole day.

”’I am appealing to AEDC to improve power supply to the area to enable me run my business effectively.’’ she said.

Mr Lekan Ademola, a civil servant resident in Dei-dei said that power supply had been a problem in his area.

Ademola said that the situation had made people in the area to rely on solar as an alternative source of electricity.

He said that the cost of solar was high and everyone could not afford it.

”The Federal Government or the people in charge of power supply in the FCT should look for a way of solving the problem of epileptic power supply,” he said.
