Alhaji Alhaji, former minister of finance, dies at 87

 

 

Lagos, July 30, 2026 – Alhaji Abubabar Alhaji, a former Nigerian minister of finance, is dead.

Family sources announced his death in the early hours of Thursday.

He died in Abuja at the age of 87.

Alhaji was minister of state in budget and planning ministry in 1988 and later became minister of finance between 1990 and 1991 under President Ibrahim Babangida,

He was later appointed Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 1992 to 1996.

Alhaji was the Sardauna of Sokoto, a highly revered traditional position within Sokoto Emirate.
