NLC disrupts Air Peace flight operations, airline apologises to passengers
Lagos, Aug. 2026 – Flight operations of Air Peace, a leading airline in the country, are being disrupted by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
The NLC had on Tuesday morning embarked on industrial action with other affiliated unions to press some for the resolution of some contending labour issues in the company.
The unions started picketing in the company earlyas as 5.00 am.
The unions barricaded the entrances to its departure terminals at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1, comprising the Alpha and Zulu Terminals and Terminal 2 in Lagos.
The blockade also affected access to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport terminal in Abuja, preventing scheduled flights from departing from both cities.
Consequently, many passengers intending to board scheduled early morning flights were disappointed as the flights were not allowed to operate.
An intending passenger said he had arrived at the airport early for the 6:30am flight, but was left stranded without clear information on when operations would resume.
Meanwhile, the management of the company has apologized for the disruptions of its flight operations in Lagos and Abuja airports on Tuesday morning.
“Air Peace sincerely apologises to all affected and stranded passengers for the disruption and inconvenience caused by circumstances beyond the airline’s control. Passengers scheduled to travel later today are being contacted and provided with relevant updates as the situation evolves,” it said in a statement.
It agreed that the blockade had restricted access to these terminals, preventing the departure of scheduled flights from Lagos and Abuja.
“Consequently, passengers scheduled to travel across our network have been significantly affected by the disruption to flight operations,” it said.
The unions have accused the company of continued abused of workers’ rights.
They alleged that the company was preventing its workers from joining trade unions and failing to remit ticket sales charges owed to the NCAA, among others.
The unions said they had issued a notice of picketing to the company on August 4.
