After 50 days in captivity, kidnapped Oyo pupils,  teachers regain freedom

 

Pupils and teachers who were abducted by gunmen in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom after spending more than 50 days in captivity.

The development was announced on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his verified X account.

«”Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo, have been freed by their abductors,” Onanuga wrote.»

Although details surrounding their release remain sketchy, the news has brought relief to the victims’ families and residents who had anxiously awaited their return.

The victims were kidnapped in an incident that sparked widespread concern and renewed calls for stronger security measures to safeguard schools and rural communities.

As of the time of this report, authorities have yet to disclose the circumstances surrounding their release or confirm whether any arrests have been made in connection with the abduction.
