Lagos Assembly mourns two staff members
Lagos, June 2026(TBL Africa) The Lagos State House of Assembly has expressed sorrow over the death of two members of its staff, Mr Domingo Adeleke and Miss Esther Adetimehin, describing their passing as a painful loss to the legislative institution.
The Assembly announced their demise during plenary on Thursday, where the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, led lawmakers in observing a minute of silence in honour of the deceased officers.
Obasa said the deaths had created a significant void within the Assembly family, noting that both officers served with dedication, commitment and exemplary professionalism during their time in service.
According to the Speaker, Adeleke, an Auditor with the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission and Chairman of the Lagos State Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), died while attending the 114th Session of the International Labour Organization Conference in Geneva.
He was reported to have passed away on Tuesday in a hospital after a brief illness.
The Assembly also paid tribute to Adetimehin, a staff member of the Administration and Human Resources Directorate of the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission, who died shortly after giving birth to a set of twins.
Obasa described her death as particularly heartbreaking, noting that she was relatively new to the service and had already distinguished herself as a promising officer.
While praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased, the Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to formally convey the Assembly’s condolences to their families through letters of condolence.
He assured the bereaved families of the Assembly’s support during this difficult period and urged them to draw comfort from the impactful lives and enduring legacies left behind by their loved ones.
