EFCC detains energy commission DG over alleged N500bn fraud

Abuja, May 2026 (TBL Africa) The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested and detained the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi.
An EFCC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the D-G, who was arrested on Wednesday in Abuja, was being held over allegations of money laundering.
The source said the suspect was under investigation for alleged fraud amounting to about N500 billion.
“We have arrested the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, over alleged money laundering offences.
”He was arrested in Abuja, and is currently in our custody. He will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the source said.

Abdullahi was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the third D-G of the commission on October 24, 2023.
