Energy TIMES award: Ogaji, APGC CEO named Amazon of Nigeria’s Power Sector 2025
Dr. Joy Ogaji, Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC), has been named Amazon of Nigeria’s Power Sector for 2025.
The award according to the organisers is in recognition of her exceptional leadership, visionary approach, and strong advocacy for fair market rules, improved liquidity, enhanced operational efficiency, and reforms critical to grid stability and reliable power supply.
Ogaji was honoured alongside other industry leaders, experts, academics, and dignitaries at the third edition of the ENERGY TIMES Awards held in Ikeja, Lagos.
Yakubu Lawal, Chairman of ENERGY TIMES Board, in his remark, said the award followed a rigorous evaluation process by the Award Board and its Advisory Panel, which assessed her role in championing the interests of Nigeria’s power generation companies and advancing the growth and sustainability of the sector.
He said, “Since assuming leadership of APGC, Dr. Ogaji has positioned the association as a strategic and influential voice in Nigeria’s electricity market, advocating for fair market rules, improved liquidity, operational efficiency, and reforms critical to grid stability and reliable power supply.
“Her leadership has also strengthened regulatory engagement, boosted investor confidence, and enhanced transparency and accountability across member companies, while contributing significantly to national energy policy dialogues and sector-wide reform initiatives,” Chairman of ENERGY TIMES Board said.
Ogaji in her acceptance speech, dedicated the award to stakeholders and fellow Comrades championing power sector advocacies.
She therefore reaffirmed commitment to driving reforms aimed at improving market stability and operational performance.
The Board, management, and members of the APGC, in a congratulatory message sen by Advisors Reports also commended Ogaji for the ENERGY TIMES recognition, noting that under her leadership the association has evolved into a strong and respected voice, driving strategic stakeholder collaboration and advancing initiatives that promote sustainable investment in power generation.
The association also highlighted its role in facilitating the approval of a $750 million facility for GenCos under the World Bank-backed Power Sector Recovery Program, with about 70 percent already disbursed through sustained engagement and representation led by Ogaji.
The APGC Board further pointed to key policy interventions under her leadership, including contributions to the Electricity Bill 2021, amendments to the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, participation in Senate tariff review hearings, and consultancy roles on Eligible Customer Regulations, among other advocacy efforts.
