FRSC partners MEMAN to train corps personnel in Rivers
Port Harcourt, April 2026(TBL Africa) The Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) says it is partnering Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) to train corps personnel in Rivers.
Henry Benemesia, Asstistant Corp Marshall, FRSC Zone 6, said at a training programme on Monday in Port Harcourt that truck drivers and their assistants required adequate understanding of road safety rules.
Benemesia said that the training, specifically organised for FRSC safe-to-load operatives was critical to correcting wrong traffic attitudes.
The FRSC official said that the corps had observed truck drivers’ poor adherence to prescribed safety standards especially for trucks transporting inflammable products.
“The training will empower personnel to provide safety sensitisation and behavioral change lessons for truck drivers and their assistants.
“The exercise will charge our officers to take responsibility for any damage that may arise as a result of dereliction of duty.
”It will emphasize the need for truck operators to strictly follow the prescribed standards, rules and regulations,” he said.
Mr Victor Ajise, the Assistant Director, Health Safety and Environment, Nigerian Mainstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Port Harcourt Regional Office, commended the FRSC for the training.
He described the collaboration between FRSC and MEMAN as ‘well-intended’ and capable of changing the observed conduct of truck drivers.
Ajise said that some truck drivers had continued to operate without colour-coding their trucks after about one year of the initiative’s take-off.
”We expect full implementation of color-coding, any truck not crested with the right colour should not be allowed to operate,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr IfeOluwa Oyedeji, the Transport Management Systems Coordinator, TotalEergies, assured that the firm would continue to promote safety.
He said that the safe-to-load initiative would subject trucks to basic safety procedures, and prescribe penalties against offenders.
