Lagos NDC urges Nigerians to vote out APC over rising cost of living

Lagos NDC urges Nigerians to vote out APC over rising cost of living

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Lagos State has urged Nigerians to vote out the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections over rising cost of living and alleged failure to improve workers’ welfare.

The party made the call at the flag-off of its campaign in Lagos West Senatorial Candidate at the weekend, urging civil servants, security personnel and other Nigerians to reject the ruling party at the polls.

Moshood Salvador, the NDC senatorial candidate for Lagos West, said rising prices of essential commodities, including bread and rice, had worsened household hardship, while workers’ salaries had not increased proportionately.

“The bread we were buying for N500, when they got there, we are now buying for N1,000 each,” he said.

Salvador questioned why workers should continue supporting a government that, according to him, had failed to improve their economic circumstances.

He also urged political aspirants to identify the problems they intended to solve before seeking elective office, stressing the need for accountability and effective representation.

Recalling his election to the House of Representatives in 1999, Salvador said inadequate access to water in Mushin, Lagos, had motivated him to seek public office.

He said residents in his area had to travel to Shomolu to fetch water, adding that he prioritised addressing the problem after assuming office and contributed personal funds to projects aimed at improving water supply.

Salvador also criticised what he described as inadequate representation of Lagos West in the Senate, arguing that elected officials should be assessed by their contributions to legislation and constituency development.

On foreign affairs, he called for stronger diplomatic action to protect Nigerians facing discrimination and mistreatment in other African countries.

He also expressed support for Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, describing him as a leader who could prioritise public interest.

On women’s participation in governance, Salvador advocated greater inclusion in political decision-making and the distribution of empowerment programmes.

He proposed that the allocation of such benefits should reflect recorded voting patterns among women and men.

Salvador assured party supporters that their votes would be protected and urged them to mobilise more Nigerians to support the NDC.

Also speaking, Pastor Mrs Dayo Ekong, the NDC National Vice-President for the South-West and House of Representatives candidate for Eti-Osa Federal Constituency, urged Nigerians to vote against the APC, citing the country’s economic challenges.

Mr Funso Doherty, the NDC governorship candidate in Lagos State, said the party was prepared to offer Lagosians a credible alternative through policies that would improve their lives.

“Our distinguished senatorial candidate for Lagos West is doing the flag-off of his campaign today. As you can see, we have all the people from the senatorial district here; NDC is on ground.

“We’re going to give the people of Lagos a credible alternative and adopt policies that will be impactful to the lives of Lagosians,” Doherty said.

The event attracted party leaders and supporters from the 10 local government areas in Lagos West Senatorial District.
