Akinteye, students’ leader urges youths to reject calls for reintroduction of fuel subsidy

Akure, Sept 2026 – Babatunde Akinteye, the National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has urged the youths to reject recent calls for reintroduction of fuel subsidy.

He said they should continue to support the federal government’s policy on fuel subsidy removal.

The students’ union leader gave the advice in Akure on Tuesday while speaking at a youth summit with the theme ‘Unlocking Ondo State students’ potentials for economic growth.’

He said they should rather concern themselves with the ways savings from fuel subsidy removal were being used.

The student leader advised them to demand transparency and accountability in the use of the proceeds from oil subsidy removal.

He listed the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as one of the programmes of the current administration that had benefitted the youths.

Akinteye urged the youths to learn from history to know how on successive government in the past mismanaged the economy even when there was fuel subsidy.

He said the recent calls to reintroduce fuel subsidy were being made by some political gladiators and advised that Nigeria should not return to that era.
