Stock market opens week with 0.05% decline, investors lose N76bn
Lagos, July 2026 (TBL Africa) The Nigerian stock market opened the week on a bearish note on Monday, as investors lost N76 billion amid profit-taking in insurance, banking and consumer goods stocks.
Market capitalisation also declined by 0.05 per cent, falling from N159.587 trillion to N159.511 trillion.
Similarly, the All-Share Index dropped by 118.66 points or 0.05 per cent to close at 247,238.74, compared with 247,357.40 recorded in the previous session.
This brought the market’s Year-to-Date return to 58.88 per cent, while market breadth closed negative with 32 losers against 28 gainers.
Trans-Nationwide Express and Sunu Assurances led the losers table by 10 per cent each, ending the session at N219.60 and N3.24 per share respectively.
Also, International Breweries fell by 9.85 per cent, settling at N12.35, Neimeth International Pharmaceutical lost by 9.78 per cent, finishing at N8.30 and Austinlaz shed by 9.64 per cent, closing at N3.28 per share.
On the other hand, Coronation Infrastructure Fund led the gainers’ table by 9.95 per cent, settling N140.30, Thomas Wyatt Nigeria followed by 9.92 per cent, ending the session at N3.99, while Lasaco Assurance gained by 9.89 per cent, finishing at N2 per share.
Similarly, Critical Minerals Financing Corp appreciated by 9.18 per cent, closing at N3.45 and Chams grew by 7.78 per cent, finishing at N4.85 per share.
Analysis of the market activity revealed an overall increase in the market value, volume and deals.
A total of 637.96 million shares worth N57.20 billion exchanged across 71,240 transactions, compared with 614.55 million shares valued at N32.95 billion traded in 55,282 deals earlier on Friday.
Access Corporation emerged as the most traded stock by volume, with 47.57 million shares, representing 7.46 per cent of the total volume traded.
Aradel led the value chart with transactions worth N27.57 billion, accounting for 48.20 per cent of the day’s total traded value
