Lagos CBD arrests 859, suspends 7 officers over misconduct
Lagos, May 2026 (TBL Africa) The Lagos State Central Business Districts (CBD) Office arrested and prosecuted 859 offenders across Lagos Island and Ikeja business districts in 2025.
The arrest and prosecution were in an effort to enforce compliance in the state’s commercial corridors.
Mrs Bola Olumegbon-Lawal, the Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on CBD, disclosed this on Tuesday during the 2026 Lagos State Ministerial Press Briefing at Alausa, Ikeja.
The briefing was in commemoration of Gov Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s third year of second term in office.
Olumegbon-Lawal also confirmed that seven officers of the agency were suspended during the period under review for misconduct and insubordination.
She said the arrested persons included 24 tricycle operators.
According to her, the arrested persons were arrested for illegal parking, traffic light violations, dangerous driving, and driving against traffic within the state’s business districts.
The special adviser said the agency had sustained aggressive enforcement and environmental restoration exercises across commercial areas, such as Inner Marina, Broad Street, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dosumu, Ebute-Ero, Martins Street and Idumota.
She said illegal shanties erected on setbacks and walkways were dismantled to maintain orderliness and create a conducive business environment for residents, traders and investors.
Olumegbon-Lawal said the agency also acted on public complaints against its officials.
“It gladdens my heart to inform you that my office does not ignore public complaints, especially those directed against our officers.
“All complaints are investigated and, where necessary, affected officers are disciplined accordingly,” she said.
She, however, decried attacks on CBD officers by hoodlums and some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) during enforcement operations.
“At times, our officers have been subjected to attacks by elements linked to NURTW and hoodlums whose actions undermine the agency’s efforts toward effective service delivery,” she said.
The special adviser assured Lagos residents that the agency would continue to enforce law and order across business districts in spite of challenges.
She highlighted the role played by CBD personnel during emergencies, including their response during the collapse of the Great Nigeria Insurance Building on Christmas Eve in 2025.
According to her, CBD officers were among the first responders who alerted relevant agencies and collaborated with security operatives and emergency responders to manage the incident.
Olumegbon-Lawal added that the agency had intensified sensitisation campaigns and stakeholder engagements with market leaders, business owners and community representatives to encourage compliance with environmental sanitation and traffic regulations.
