Nnaji breaks silence on election rumours, reaffirms commitment to power, sector growth

Aba, Nigeria — Former Minister of Power, Professor Bart Nnaji, has firmly dismissed persistent rumours linking him to political ambitions ahead of the 2026 general elections, describing the claims as unfounded and misleading.

This is contained in a statement by Edise Ekong, Senior Brand and Communications Manager, Aba Power and made available in Lagos.

Despite an earlier clarification, speculation about his alleged candidacy has continued to circulate, with unidentified groups reportedly producing and distributing campaign-style posters portraying him as a preferred leadership choice.

The development has triggered a wave of reactions, as supporters from within and outside Nigeria have reached out to express solidarity.

However, in a renewed statement, the renowned engineer and energy expert made it unequivocally clear that he is not affiliated with any political party and has no intention of contesting for public office.

Professor Nnaji, who also previously served as Minister of Science and Technology, emphasized that his current focus remains firmly on advancing Nigeria’s energy landscape through his pioneering role at Geometric Power, the country’s leading integrated electricity company.

Under his leadership, the company continues to expand its footprint, supplying electricity beyond the Aba Ring-fence Area into neighbouring regions, including parts of Rivers State.

Industry observers note that this growth trajectory positions the firm as a critical driver of Nigeria’s industrial and economic development.

Sources close to the energy expert suggest that his commitment lies in strengthening power infrastructure and supporting national progress, rather than engaging in partisan politics.

The statement also urged journalists and members of the public to disregard the ongoing speculation, warning against attempts by certain elements to exploit Professor Nnaji’s reputation and goodwill for political advantage.

As Nigeria prepares for another election cycle, the clarification appears aimed at putting to rest what insiders describe as a “deliberate misrepresentation” of one of the country’s most respected figures in the energy sector.

For now, Professor Nnaji’s message remains clear: his priority is powering Nigeria’s future—not pursuing political office.
