PETAN seeks bigger role for indigenous oil service firms
The Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) has called for greater participation of indigenous oil and gas service companies, saying access to assets must go beyond ownership to include the services and technology needed to operate them.
The association’s Publicity Secretary, Dr. Joan Faluyi, made the call at the 2026 Association of Energy Correspondents of Nigeria (NAEC) Energy Conference in Lagos.
Faluyi said as indigenous operators acquired more assets, local service companies should be empowered to handle their operations.
“Our members bring the technical expertise and field experience to do this, creating jobs and retaining value in Nigeria. With the right investment and enabling environment, they can take on larger and more complex scopes,” she said.
She commended NAEC for sustaining public discourse on energy issues and providing a platform for policymakers, operators and service providers to exchange ideas.
Faluyi expressed hope that the conference deliberations would produce practical commitments to strengthen indigenous participation across the energy value chain.
She also congratulated recipients of the NAEC Industry Awards and urged stakeholders to translate access into opportunities for sustainable growth in Nigeria’s energy industry.
