Abuja court strikes out criminal charges against Adeyemi, alleged fake DG
The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday struck out criminal charges against Adeniyi Adeyemi by the federal government for allegedly setting up a fake office in the presidency and appointing himself as its director[ general.
Adeniyi Adeyemi is being tried with two others for allegedly setting up a fake office, the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, in the presidency and appointing himself as it’s director-general.
Adeyemi, 38, is being tried on conspiracy and forgery alongside two others whose whereabouts are unknown.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar, the Presiding Judge, struck out the case following the request of the federal government that the case would be transferred to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for fresh arraignment.
Rotimi Oyedepo, the Director of the Public Prosecution of the Federation, moved an application for the termination of the charges.
Oyedepo said the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, had reviewed the case file and found some loopholes in the charges filed by the Inspector General of Police.
He said that the documents allegedly forged by Adeyemi during his operation of the fake agency are those that can be prosecuted by the High Court of the FCT and not the Federal High Court.
Oyedepo said a new charge had been filed at the High Court of the FCT where Adeyemi would be arraigned afresh.
He urged the judge to strike out the charge as required by law.
Ibrahim Angulu, who stood for Adeyemi, said he had no objections to the request by the federal government.
Justice Umar consequently terminated the charge accordingly.
